Let’s start!
We have conducted our first sampling of discarded mussel long-line ropes. A total of 450 kg of discarded ropes were collected from Mendexa aquaculture facility located in the South East Bay of Bicay.
The ropes were brought to AZTI, where they were cleaned and classified by type. Three representative ropes per each type were selected to study their recyclability at GAIKER facilities.
Once at GAIKER, the mussel load and the maximum amount of material were quantified. To do so 1 m samples were analysed per each type.
